Inaugural Hara Cup 2009
The fist ever Hara Cup got under way on a very beautiful Saturday where all competitors are eager to pit their skill against the world champion. On a track that was both technical and demanding on the car we saw the top drivers from Indonesia completed the qualifying rounds without any major problem securing their top spot on each of the qualifying round finishing one two on the final qualifying standing with Stanley taking the TQ. AH on the other hand, although he has blistering pace and setting fastest lap after fastest lap, he fell victims to bad luck (pressure line came-off, etc) and only manage to finish 2 out of the 5 qualifying race. With the final qualifying standing base on 3 out of 5 qualifying run, AH was down at number 17.
On Sunday race day, starting from quarter final, with his amazing pace and skills, we saw AH easily qualify for the grand final without any major problem. Now, is he ready for the gruesome one hour final?
Before the grand final where everyone is expecting to see a run away champion in AH, we saw one of the most exciting race in final B where 2 local top dawgs, Kelvin N and Super Khoo battling all the way from the get go and trading places for more than 15 minutes until Super Khoo finally faded and eventually Kelvin taking the top spot.
In the grand final, starting from pole position, is Indonesia driver JA. When the race get under way, he experience starting problem and fail to get away, while his mechanic was working on the car, all the rest get away cleanly and Stanley, another fast Indonesian driver was leading the race with AH in hot pursuit. When JA eventually rejoin the race, he was almost 2 laps behind and he start pushing immediately. Meanwhile AH passes Stanley and taking the race lead. Once AH took the lead he starts putting in lap after lap of 40s and 39s and building up a huge gap that amounts to 6 laps. He really needed those laps in the end.
While AH was cruising in front, strong contender Stanley fell victim to the demanding track and he has to retire early only manage to finish half of the race. Meanwhile, John Agus continued his amazing charged and reach second place and in pursuit of AH himself. This is the moment when AH start having some problem issues from his car, he was slowing down with less than 20 minutes left in the race with JA closing in fast. While he was pushing hard, JA started to make some mistake of his own and suffer a couple of flame out the saw him drop back to middle of the pack.
With less than 10 minutes left in the race, AH car had taken more punishment had he was practically cruising on the track. He was not able to make any jump and he was not even able to push the car at all. We saw AH lap time start dropping from the 40s to 50s and even into minutes. He is really struggling to take the car home. It was good thing that he had built up all those lead early in the race. Now, he can afford to limp home. At the 1 hour mark, the race finally ended with AH taking the checker flag with the next closes 4 laps behind, and he celebrated with donuts in front of the drivers stand.
At the end of the day AH will be the first name on the Hara Cup Challenge trophy and we look forward to the next year Hara Cup. The world champion donated his body shell for lucky draw, and lucky driver DL is the winner of that piece of history. You may check out all the race results here.

First Round of 2009 MNL Buggy and Truggy Race
It was a hot and sunny afternoon. The race was very exciting as this was the first time we have a 20 car race per heat. The race was going very well until we hit some problem with the amplifier. It blew up on our face, so you can imagine how hot was this race, everyone is giving their maximum to be on top of the FEMCA points systems. We at RC Connections would like to formally apologize for the hearing difficulties between pit crews and drivers that was cause by the malfunctions of the amplifier systems. It was totally our fault. We will make sure the same will not happen. Due to this mishap, the race was ended slightly late.
We also like to point out an incident during the race. One of the volunteer marshall was down and it happen right when our amplifier was out, we are unable to announced to the drivers to watch out for him at the end of the big jump. I believe most of you saw him. Just a frindly reminder, we do not have a yellow flag like F1, but we do appreciate all drivers to exercise cautions when they see some one is down. Your cooperation is highly appreciated.
Once again a great race and great support from all our friends locally and from Singapore. We hope you will enjoy the next race even better. Here is the results.
